What makes the CZ 457 unique

Three generations of Czech rimfire evolution produced the rimfire world's 'Lego' bolt action: one action, many barrels, and a huge aftermarket.
One action, many barrels
The barrel slips into the receiver and is held by two set screws, so .22 LR, .22 WMR and .17 HMR barrel sets can share one action. CZ markets this as user-swappable, but its Mini-set instructions say each barrel should be gunsmith-fitted and headspace-checked — we flag that conflict.

The 457 cut bolt rotation from the 455's 90° to 60°, giving clearance for larger ocular bells and lower rings — a direct fix for the older rifles' scope-hand clearance problem.

Brno Model 1 (1945) and ZKM 452 (1954) → CZ 455 (2010, set-screw barrels) → CZ 457 (2019): shorter slab-sided action, push-to-fire safety requested by US Hunter Ed and 4-H coaches, a new adjustable trigger and a striker about 2/3 lighter.

Barrels and magazines interchange with the CZ 455; .22 LR mags fit 452/453/455/457/512. Stocks, triggers and bottom metal do not.
