Rimfire suppressor picks
We have not tested these products hands-on. Picks are based on published maker specs, independent published tests and listings we checked on 2026-10-11. Confidence reflects how well each spec is sourced.
The short answer
Three proven .22 cans, all rated .17 HMR through 5.7x28: BANISH 22 (lightest, 4.1 oz), Dead Air Mask (quietest average in PewPewTactical's test, low first-round pop), and SilencerCo Sparrow (lowest MSRP, $349). Most US threaded CZ 457 barrels are 1/2x28. Some European and older CZ rimfire barrels are 1/2x20, which needs a 1/2x20-to-1/2x28 adapter (e.g., SilencerCo Adapter RF). Check your barrel's marking or manual.
Legal status (as of 2026-10-11, US federal; not legal advice)
- Tax: the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (Pub. L. 119-21) cut the NFA transfer and making tax on suppressors to $0 on Jan 1, 2026 GrabAGun.
- Registration and approval: after a district-court injunction in Silencer Shop Foundation v. ATF, ATF published an open letter saying that, effective Oct 9, 2026, it no longer requires NFA approval or registration to make or transfer suppressors, and will accept Form 1/3/4 filings on a voluntary basis. GCA background checks and prohibited-person rules still apply ATF open letter (via SAF) · Gun Tech America summary (conf: med; this is new, it could change on appeal, and we are reading a secondary copy of the letter).
- State law still controls. Some states ban suppressors or tie legality to federal registration, so voluntary registration may still matter there. Check your state law and ask a lawyer before you buy or make one.

Where to buy
- Silencer Central sells direct and ships to your door. It runs an affiliate program on FlexOffers (2.4%, 30-day cookie), and the links above go there.
- Silencer Shop works through a network of local "Powered by Silencer Shop" dealers. We found no public affiliate program, so we don't link it, but its dealer locator is a good way to buy locally.
- Brownells lists suppressor accessories: Dead Air Mask Rimfire Thread Adapter.
Host tips
See the suppressor host page for thread protectors, point-of-impact shift and cleaning. Rimfire cans get dirty fast, so prefer user-serviceable designs.
